Throw some books at me.

I'm still currently locked in my editing hole, but I foresee an escape in my near future. When I escape, I plan to catch up on all the things that have fallen by the wayside in the last month. This will involve watching some tv shows that have been recommended to me and also reading ALL OF THE BOOKS.

This is where you come in. It's been awhile since I read an AMAZING book. Some have been good, others meh. It's been too long since I've read a book I CANNOT PUT DOWN. So please, please, please throw some book recommendations at me. I don't care what genre they are, if they're adult or YA, if they're recent or classics. THROW THEM AT ME.

I like to feel something when I read a book, and I'm always up for something new. Unless it's filled with very descriptive and senseless gore. This is the only line I draw. I'm up for anything else.

Let me have it.

14 really deep and meaningful thoughts:

  1. *Hurls Ultraviolet by RJ Anderson at Jade*

  2. THE NIGHT CIRCUS by Erin Morgenstern (Best book I have read in a while, if not ever)
DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth (You will like Four ;)
(SHADE if you haven't already and) SHIFT by Jeri Smith-Ready (Hot Irish and Scottish boys, also INTRIGUE)

  3. Rhi -- I was curious about Ultraviolet because it sounds like it might be MY KIND OF THING. Will definitely check it out now.

Amanda -- I wasn't sure if The Night Circus was good all if it was all hype. But that's a big plug. *adds to list* I haven't read any of those books.

    THANKS!

  4. No, it was gorgeously written. I felt like it would take me years to write prose as beautiful as hers, and The Night Circus is her freaking DEBUT. *sigh* I loved it.

The others are YA and are absolutely wonderful. Divergent is dystopian and Shade and Shift are about ghosts in a similar world and they have to do with Celtic mythology.

    I hope you enjoy. :)

By any chance, have you read Dreamhunter and Dreamquake? (Most of me wants to assume you have.)

  5. Amanda -- I will avoid TNC until I have finished editing so the pretty prose does not add to my writing depression. And no, I haven't even heard of those two books. Good?

  6. Really? They're by a New Zealand author, how dare you! :P They're fantastic. Kind of historical fantasy. You should add them to your list.

And yes, wait to read TNC until you are less likely to hate your writing. I'm glad I was done with TSA when I read it or I would have curled into a ball, I think.

  7. Daughter of Smoke and Bone and Glow were both amazing. I also read Cinder by Marissa Meyer (got an ARC). I LOVED it!

  8. I was going to say DIVERGENT but you said no gore...it had too much violence for me, but I'm a wimp. It's not really "gore" per se, tho. For lighter and enjoyable reads: THE GHOST AND THE GOTH by Stacey Kade, and GIMME A CALL by Sarah Mlynowski. I've heard A LONG, LONG SLEEP by Anna Sheehan is getting great reviews if you like light sci-fi (Sleeping Beauty retelling with a twist).

  9. I just picked up The Night Circus and am hoping it's a keeper. Also, The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman is supposed to be amazing historical fiction. I've haven't read it yet--I'm still mired down in edits myself.

Hmmm... I don't suppose you'll be looking for a beta reader, would you?

  10. Daughter of smoke and bone, girl of fire and thorns, shatter me, and the near witch. Ooh! And of course, delirium.

  11. I agree with The Night Circus. Worth the hype. A lovely, lovely story. I rarely find a book where I want to highlight passages, but The Night Circus was one of those.

Have you read Never Let Me Go? Gut-wrenching.

Name of the Star is a fun read.

And I would say Lola and The Boy Next Door, but you already know the awesomeness of that book!

I'm behind on my reading. The Scorpio Races is next up. Sounds awesome.

  12. I second NAME OF THE STAR. Wicked good fun. And I've just started DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE.

Oh, and you should read EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS by A.S.King! In fact, I'm giving away a copy on my blog right now...

  13. Okay, so I cannot find your email on this website. (Blogspot confuses the hell out of me.) Is there a specific store that stocks your novel (The Silagree), or is it only available on an iPad or something? X
