How do you push through when all you want to do is give up?
I remind myself I would not have done this if I didn't, at some point, believe in my story. I hang onto the one thing I truly love about it, even if I can't feel it anymore. Even though I can only see the individual words on the page, I remind myself that they add up to a story I care about.
At some point, I'll reach the other side, and it will all be worth it.
I hope.
Commiserations to anyone else struggling through.
Well, if you're talking about the Silagree, I was just thinking about the extent of its awesomeness today. And you've probably improved it even more since I read it so there. I love the story and you know you do too. (You've probably just worked on it too long). And you will reach the other side, and it will be totally worth it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like the honeymoon is over. It always happens no matter how in love with your novel you where when you typed the final word of that first draft. I have two books under my belt now and I hate them both, but I'm still writing. Happy editing :)
ReplyDeleteEditing sucks.
ReplyDeleteGranted, I still like it more than first drafts, but this edit of Theodora started at the end of May and I'm just now approaching the end.
*insert needles into eyeballs*
Good luck!
I'm here for you! You can do this! If it makes you feel any better, I've hit a wall in first draft land. It's slow going. It took me a month to write 25,000 words!
ReplyDeleteWell, nobody ever said it would be easy... I'm revising my first novel (painfully slowly) and in the middle of writing my second novel and I have to laugh at Lisa's comment that she's writing slowly because it took her a month to write 25K. I write about 5 or 6K a month! That's all I can do with a full time job, reading a lot, taking care of a house and a family. But I tell myself it's better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteTake a break, Jade. Sometimes that's the best way to get past the pain.
Good luck! I do the same when I'm feeling down about my book. It will totally be worth it when you get to the other side.
ReplyDeleteYOU CAN DO IT! Also, if you push yourself too hard, you'll fry and have to spend two weeks in a puddle of tears and regret. Just saying. *grin*
ReplyDeleteSuch a great post! Love visiting your blog!
